Riverside, CA (April 2, 2026) – A collision involving three vehicles on the northbound 215 Freeway in Riverside killed a 3-month-old infant and injured several others on Sunday evening, March 29. The incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. when a Honda Civic slowed down or came to a stop because of traffic ahead. A Nissan rear-ended the Honda, followed by a Toyota that then crashed into the rear of the Nissan, resulting in a chain-reaction collision. The Nissan, which had two adults and two young children inside, suffered the most severe damage. The back of the vehicle was severely crushed, trapping the occupants inside. Emergency responders worked to free those trapped, including children secured in car seats. One child, 3-month-old Leon Edgington Morales, was sadly pronounced dead. The second child and the two adults in the Nissan sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. The Toyota driver sustained moderate injuries, while the Honda occupants complained of pain but were not hospitalized. The reason for the initial stop is still unknown, and officials say neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected in the crash. The investigation into the crash’s cause is ongoing, with additional details to be shared when available. Our heartfelt condolences go to the deceased’s family in this trying time. How Chain-Reaction Crashes Happen on Busy Freeways. Chain-reaction crashes frequently happen when traffic slows abruptly, leaving trailing drivers insufficient time to brake.
