(Panorama City, CA) A 40-year-old woman died in a collision on Van Nuys Boulevard early Friday, December 26, when she was hit by a hit-and-run driver in a shopping center parking lot. The incident occurred around 4:55 a.m. As an unidentified vehicle entered the Plant Shopping Center from Van Nuys Boulevard. The driver hit the pedestrian, who was later identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Marlene Saravia Bonilla. The LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division is asking the public for tips as the probe goes on. Van Nuys Boulevard Collision Summary. Since the driver fled the scene after hitting the victim, investigators will emphasize the Hit-and-Run Statute. This law mandates that drivers in crashes causing injury or death must stop, provide their identification, and offer aid. Immediately fleeing the scene escalates the incident to a felony hit-and-run, making it the key factor in the Van Nuys Boulevard crash. As the collision happened in a parking lot linked to a major road, experts might also cite the Pedestrian Right-of-Way laws.
