Los Angeles, CA (September 22, 2025) – A heartbreaking event took place on Friday night in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles, where 30-year-old Gerardo Estrada was killed after being hit by a vehicle from the Los Angeles Police Department while he was skateboarding. Officials reported that the incident happened at approximately 7:23 p.m. On September 19, at the intersection of Woodside Dr and North Figueroa St, LAPD officers were responding to an emergency call with their patrol car’s lights and sirens activated when they struck Estrada, who was skateboarding in the road. Sadly, Estrada sustained lethal injuries in the accident and was declared deceased at the scene. There were no additional injuries reported. The incident is currently being reviewed internally, which is standard practice in fatal incidents involving law enforcement vehicles. The Los Angeles Police Department has not provided additional information regarding the specifics of the call or how fast the patrol unit was going at the time of the accident. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Gerardo Estrada during this profoundly challenging period.
