Officials are still probing the reason behind the accident. We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the victim. How Wrong-Way Driving Heightens the Danger of Severe Collisions. Driving the wrong way can lead to abrupt and hazardous scenarios, particularly at night. Drivers going the wrong way against traffic can catch others off guard, as they don’t anticipate a vehicle approaching from that direction. Nighttime conditions with poor visibility and lighter traffic can further add to roadway confusion. When a vehicle enters oncoming lanes, pedestrians and other drivers may have little time to react. Crashes from wrong-way driving frequently lead to severe consequences because of the unexpected impact angle. Examining road markings, signs, and drivers’ behaviors can help explain how these incidents happen.
