Los Angeles, CA (March 23, 2026) – Two individuals were injured in an early morning blaze at a two-story apartment complex in Los Angeles’ El Sereno neighborhood on Sunday, March 22. Emergency responders were sent to the scene around 4:18 a.m. to the 4100 block of East Abner Street, located just south of Ascot Hills Park. Fire crews contained the blaze, which damaged two apartment units and extended into the attic, bringing it under control in roughly 34 minutes. A 34-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman were transported to a hospital with injuries. No additional injuries were reported, and crews stayed on site to secure the structure and evaluate the damage. The fire’s cause is still unknown. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. We send our sympathies to the injured and hope for their complete recovery. How Fires in Apartment Buildings Can Spread Rapidly in Multi-Unit Structures. Streets like Abner Street in residential areas typically function for both local access and consistent neighborhood traffic. When fires break out in Los Angeles, response teams secure the scene while aiding those impacted. Apartment building fires spread faster than those in single-family homes because of the shared walls, ceilings, and attics. When flames reach these interconnected areas, they can spread between units, even if the fire originates in only one section. An early response is crucial for limiting damage.
