Long Beach, CA (March 15, 2026) – An e-bike rider was hospitalized after colliding with an SUV shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 15, on Pacific Avenue near Pacific Coast Highway. The incident happened when a woman driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer turned east onto 16th Street from the southbound lane of Pacific Avenue. The e-bike rider, heading north with no headlights on, collided with the SUV’s front end, crumpling his bike and pinning it under a nearby parked car. Emergency services took the man to a hospital, where he is expected to recover. The Trailblazer driver, a woman, was unharmed and stayed at the scene, assisting responders. Neither speed nor alcohol seem to have played a role in the crash. Officials are still probing the reason behind the incident, with additional information to be shared as it emerges. Our thoughts go out to the injured as they get medical treatment. Understanding E-Bike Collisions and Safety. E-bike crashes frequently happen when riders have poor visibility or ride at excessive speeds, particularly after dark. Using headlights and reflective gear significantly lowers the chance of collisions by enhancing visibility for riders and drivers alike. Intersections are frequent locations for accidents, where vehicles turning may fail to spot approaching e-bikes in time to prevent a crash. Even small collisions can cause severe injuries because riders lack physical protection.
