(Visalia, CA) A woman died Saturday night, December 13, in a crash on Riggin Avenue after being thrown from a vehicle. Officers were dispatched just before 9:30 p.m. in response to reports of a vehicle crash with a potential ejection. They arrived and found Irene Rodriguez lying in the roadway. Even with prompt lifesaving measures, she was declared dead on site. Authorities identified the driver as 38-year-old Christina Torres. She sustained no injuries and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Overview of the Riggin Avenue Crash. In cases of fatal ejection during a crash, investigators frequently cite the DUI Prohibition Law. This law forbids driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Since police report that the driver was arrested for DUI, this law will play a key role in analyzing decisions and impairments that could have led to the Riggin Avenue crash. Authorities might also invoke the Basic Speed Law.
