Hollister, Gilroy, CA (October 1, 2025) – A man suffered severe injuries on Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a car on the northbound lane of US-101, just north of Cochrane Rd. This serious highway accident resulted in considerable traffic congestion. The event took place at approximately 2:18 p.m. On September 30, a male pedestrian was allegedly hit by a white Toyota sedan while in the slow lane of the highway. Based on records from the California Highway Patrol dispatch, the individual was discovered lying face down on the road soon after the collision. A bystander heading south on the freeway observed the accident but was unable to verify if the driver came to a stop afterward. Emergency medical services, along with nearby fire departments, reached the location shortly and started providing care for the injured pedestrian. Given the seriousness of the injuries, the situation was classified as a major injury. Officials from the CHP collaborated with several teams to ensure the area was safe and to handle the significant traffic jam that stretched south beyond Cochrane Rd. Investigators are currently looking into the complete timeline of events that preceded the accident. The Toyota Camry that was involved displayed noticeable damage to the front and was subsequently towed away from the location. Currently, it is uncertain if impairment or distraction from the driver contributed to the incident. This event highlights the serious risks pedestrians encounter on fast-moving roads such as US-101.
