How Pursuits Can Lead to Secondary Crashes in Los Angeles County. Police pursuits often develop quickly and can increase the risk of additional crashes, especially in busy urban areas like Los Angeles County. When a driver attempts to flee, speeds may rise and traffic signals may be ignored, raising the chance of losing control.. Intersections are common locations for these incidents. Drivers fleeing a scene may misjudge timing or visibility, which can lead to collisions with infrastructure such as traffic lights or other roadway features. Even a single-vehicle crash can cause damage that affects surrounding traffic.. Road design, traffic volume, and nighttime visibility can all influence how these situations unfold. In areas with frequent vehicle movement, sudden changes in speed or direction can quickly create dangerous conditions for everyone nearby.
