Fresno, CA (October 18, 2025) – A single-vehicle accident on State Route 168 close to Auberry Rd in Fresno resulted in at least one fatality on Friday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place around 12:22 p.m. A report indicated that a car veered off an embankment located between the heliport and a scenic overlook on the four-lane section of SR-168. Emergency responders, such as the CHP, fire teams, and the U.S. Forest Service, quickly arrived at the location. The vehicle was found at the bottom of the embankment, and the accident was subsequently deemed a fatal incident. Emergency responders have confirmed that one individual has been pronounced dead at the location. The Coroner’s Office of Fresno County was alerted and came to help with the recovery efforts. The operations for towing and recovery were made difficult by the landscape, necessitating the use of specialized tools and prolonged collaboration with CALTRANS and local firefighting teams. Efforts to recover the situation persisted into the afternoon, with traffic being temporarily affected during the investigation and cleanup at the scene. The California Highway Patrol is still looking into the reasons behind the vehicle’s departure from the road. Currently, no additional details regarding the victim are available as officials await identification and notification of the family.
