(Phoenix, AZ) On Sunday night, December 14, a 77-year-old man died in a crash on 59th Avenue when he was hit by a motorcycle while riding a motorized wheelchair. Officers arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m. To 59th Avenue and McDowell Road. First responders discovered the pedestrian, identified as Douglas Ford, suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly afterward. Police report that the motorcycle rider suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also hospitalized. Detectives observed that Ford was crossing McDowell Road outside a crosswalk at the time of the crash. The rider displayed no indications of impairment, and the investigation is still underway.
