Bakersfield, CA (March 22, 2026) – A pedestrian died after being hit by multiple vehicles on northbound Highway 99 near the White Lane on-ramp in Bakersfield. The incident happened just before 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 21, the pedestrian was reportedly lying in the roadway. Officers confirmed the person died at the scene. Traffic lanes were closed as crews investigated and cleaned the roadway. Traffic was rerouted to Ming Avenue, resulting in significant delays. Multiple vehicles, including a 2025 Kawasaki KLX230 motorcycle, a full-size SUV, and two Chevrolet Tahoes, were towed from the scene as evidence. Reports stated that several vehicles were driving the wrong way on the White Lane northbound on-ramp at the time of the incident. Officials are still probing the details surrounding the crash, with additional information to be shared as it emerges. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the victim. Why Highway Pedestrian Accidents Are Frequently Deadly. Pedestrians face heightened danger on highways since vehicles move at high speeds, affording drivers scant time to respond. Even a short time in a lane can cause serious or fatal injuries. Multi-vehicle crashes heighten the danger, since the first impact can leave a person vulnerable to more oncoming vehicles.
