Bakersfield, CA (January 13, 2026) – A pedestrian was fatally struck in a crash on January 12 at the intersection of South Union Ave and Garden Dr in Bakersfield. The crash occurred at around 6:16 a.m. This prompted an immediate response from the California Highway Patrol, fire crews, and coroner personnel. According to the CHP, a gray sedan was traveling in the area when it struck a pedestrian under circumstances that remain under investigation. Emergency responders arrived and found the pedestrian unresponsive, pronouncing the individual dead at the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified. No other injuries have been reported, and no arrests or citations have been made at this time. Investigators are trying to figure out if speed, driver distraction, or other factors contributed to the crash. The intersection was briefly closed during the morning rush hour as authorities carried out a detailed probe and collected evidence. Scene reconstruction teams and traffic investigators were also on site to document the incident.
