Bakersfield, CA (March 31, 2026) – A pedestrian suffered injuries and a dog was fatally struck in a collision Monday night at the Chester Avenue and California Avenue intersection in central Bakersfield. The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. On March 30, a Monday. Reports show that a vehicle was heading north on Chester Ave and proceeded into the intersection at California Ave on a green light. Upon entering, it struck a pedestrian who was crossing against a red light. Emergency services arrived at the scene to offer aid. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital for care and is anticipated to recover. A dog hit in the same incident died on the spot. The driver stayed at the scene and assisted investigators. Officials stated that alcohol and excessive speed were not factors in the crash. The investigation into the cause is ongoing, with additional details to be released as they emerge.
