(Los Angeles, CA) A man died Saturday night, January 31, after trying to cross traffic lanes on a busy northbound 43183 Freeway. The California Highway Patrol reported that officers arrived at the scene around 8:33 p.m. to the Harbor (110) Freeway immediately north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle while in the roadway. Investigators identified the victim as 45-year-old Arturo Hernandez Renteria of Los Angeles. According to CHP, he dashed from the right shoulder toward the center divider, attempting to cross multiple traffic lanes. In that incident, a northbound 2015 Mercedes-Benz struck him. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene, but Renteria sustained fatal injuries and died there. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, he died from blunt traumatic injuries. CHP reported that a 30-year-old woman from Moreno Valley was driving the Mercedes; she stopped right after the crash and cooperated with officers. Investigators found no indications of impairment and made no arrests. After the crash, CHP issued a SigAlert, closing all northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway south of Adams Boulevard. Police redirected traffic to the toll lanes as crews gathered evidence and cleared the road.
