(Bakersfield, CA) On Sunday, October 5, at approximately 11:30 a.m. A collision on the Golden State Freeway close to Grapevine resulted in the death of 41-year-old Angel Barraza Garcia from Paramount and left another individual in the hospital, as authorities sought to secure the area and investigate the cause of the accident. The California Highway Patrol reported that two motorcyclists were riding southbound in the fast lane of Interstate 5. Suddenly, an SUV in a different lane tried to perform a U-turn through a freeway crossover. The action positioned the SUV right in the way of the riders, resulting in a collision between both motorcyclists and the vehicle. The entire freeway was briefly closed while officials conducted their investigation. The authorities confirmed that the initial motorcyclist involved was Angel Barraza Garcia, who was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The other motorcyclist, 39-year-old Edgar Romo, was transported by air to Kern Medical due to serious injuries and is currently in recovery. According to CHP Officer D.C. Williams, the people inside the SUV did not sustain any injuries. Authorities have informed motorists that access points for freeway turn-thrus are limited and intended for restricted use only.
