(Compton, CA) Early on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, a pedestrian lost their life in a collision on Las Hermanas Street when they were hit by a vehicle at an intersection, according to officials. The California Highway Patrol indicated that the incident took place at approximately 6 a.m. located at the intersection of East Las Hermanas Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department promptly arrived and declared the victim deceased at the location. Authorities shut down the intersection for several hours while California Highway Patrol investigators assessed the evidence. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed as authorities are waiting to inform their family. Here is a summary of the incident on Las Hermanas Street. The occurrence of pedestrian fatalities at city intersections frequently prompts inquiries regarding visibility, the attention levels of drivers, and the safety of crosswalks. Authorities will examine the circumstances surrounding the collision that took place in the early morning. Given that the incident involved a vehicle hitting a pedestrian, California Vehicle Code 21950 is expected to be assessed. According to this law, drivers must give way to pedestrians who are crossing in both marked and unmarked crosswalks. It also cautions pedestrians to be cautious and not to unexpectedly step in front of a vehicle. If the accident was influenced by fast speeds or the driver’s lack of attention, the Basic Speed Law might be relevant as well.
