(Lancaster, CA) Authorities report that an 18-year-old driver died in a tragic DUI accident on Palmdale Boulevard on Monday evening. The accident occurred when a suspected intoxicated driver ran a red light at high speed. It happened on Monday, September 22, at approximately 8:50 p.m. The DUI accident on Palmdale Boulevard took place at the crossroads of 90th Street East. According to the California Highway Patrol, M. Monroy, a 47-year-old from Palmdale, was driving a maroon Kia south when he neglected to stop at a red light. The Kia proceeded into the intersection at a high speed and collided with a gray Infiniti G35 that was heading east on Palmdale Boulevard. The impact made the Infiniti lose control and crash into a stationary white Chevrolet Avalanche at a traffic light. Authorities reported that the 18-year-old driver of the Infiniti, from Littlerock, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. The identity of the person has not been disclosed until relatives have been informed. Monroy suffered significant injuries and was transported to a hospital. G. Martinez from Lancaster, the driver of the Chevrolet, was unharmed, whereas a woman passenger sustained some minor injuries. Law enforcement later apprehended Monroy on allegations of driving under the influence.
