San Francisco, CA (March 14, 2026) – Two pedestrians suffered serious injuries after a car hit them on Friday afternoon, March 13, at an intersection in San Francisco’s Mission District. The crash took place at 22nd Street and South Van Ness Avenue. Officials reported that a vehicle hit two pedestrians before crashing into an oncoming car. Emergency services arrived at the scene and discovered several injured individuals. Two pedestrians were transported to San Francisco General Hospital suffering potentially life-threatening injuries. Four other individuals were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries: two from the vehicle that hit the pedestrians and two from the second vehicle in the crash. The intersection was shut down as emergency personnel aided victims and secured the area. The events leading to the crash have not yet been fully explained. Authorities are still investigating the cause, and further details will be shared as they emerge. Our thoughts are with the injured as they recover. How Pedestrian Crashes Can Happen at Urban Intersections. Urban intersections frequently see pedestrian accidents because of the heavy traffic of vehicles and people crossing paths at the same time. Drivers might be turning, speeding through green lights, or braking for traffic as pedestrians step into crosswalks. Poor visibility can also play a role in these accidents. Parked cars, large vehicles, and buildings near intersections can obstruct a driver’s view of pedestrians crossing the street. Traffic signal timing and driver attention influence the safety of vehicles and pedestrians sharing the road. Distractions, sudden stops, or vehicles changing lanes can heighten the risk of a collision. When struck by a vehicle, a pedestrian has minimal protection from the impact force.
