According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, the individual who died in a hit-and-run accident on South H Street earlier this month has been identified as 26-year-old Zacarias Ecahua Chipahua from Lamont. The incident took place at approximately 5:18 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on October 2 at the crossing of South H Street and Houghton Road. Following an initial inquiry, officials discovered that a 33-year-old individual was operating a Chevrolet Impala with Chipahua onboard. The driver reached the intersection and paused before proceeding. As a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado made a southbound turn onto the street, it did not stop and collided with the Impala. When the authorities came on the scene, they discovered Chipahua sitting in the front passenger seat of the Impala and declared him dead on site. The operator of the Impala suffered minor injuries, while a 45-year-old passenger was transported to Kern Medical with moderate injuries. The driver of the Silverado escaped on foot and remains at large. It is still uncertain if alcohol or drugs were involved.
