Long Beach, CA (May 21, 2026) – A tragic trench collapse on Tuesday evening killed one man and injured two others outside a newly constructed shelter building on Pacific Avenue in Long Beach. According to reports, the workers were inside a four-foot-deep trench near the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue, installing a power conduit as part of the Lydia House expansion project. One worker was kneeling inside the trench as two others stood close by when the dirt wall suddenly collapsed shortly before 5:45 p.m. The three men were buried alive when the trench collapsed on top of them. Rescue teams pulled them from the rubble and rushed the surviving workers to a local hospital for medical care. The deceased man has not been named publicly.
