**Winnetka, CA (May 11, 2026)** – Four individuals were hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision in the Winnetka neighborhood of Los Angeles. The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, May 10, on Winnetka Avenue, the crash sheared a fire hydrant, sending water shooting high into the air. Four individuals, among them children, were trapped underwater inside a vehicle until emergency services arrived. Rescuers removed one of the car doors as they worked to safely extract the children. The hydrant was later turned off at the scene. Paramedics transported four people to the hospital, while a fifth individual was evaluated on site but refused further transport. The crash is still under investigation, and more information may be released as authorities proceed with their review. Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a complete recovery. Why Crashes Involving Fire Hydrants Can Be Dangerous. Accidents that harm fire hydrants can produce rapidly evolving dangers. A powerful water geyser can impair visibility, swamp the road, and hinder escape for occupants of a damaged vehicle. Wet roads can heighten the danger for other motorists as well. When children are involved, emergency responders typically take extra care to remove doors or clear away damaged vehicle components.
