Lakeside, CA (May 21, 2026) – A fatal two-vehicle crash closed westbound Interstate 8 near Lake Jennings Park Road Thursday morning in Lakeside. Preliminary reports indicate the collision occurred around 11 a.m. and included a Tesla along with an SUV. Investigators reported that one vehicle, traveling eastbound on I-8, crossed the center divider and collided with another vehicle in the westbound lanes. The SUV flipped over and came to rest on its roof after the crash. One individual was killed, while another was rushed to Scripps Mercy Hospital in critical condition. Westbound lanes near Lake Jennings Park Road stayed closed shortly after the crash as emergency crews worked on the highway. As of Thursday, May 21, the names of those involved had not been made public. Investigators are still trying to establish the events that led to the deadly crash.
