Stockton, CA (March 28, 2026) – A fatal crash on SR-26 west of Avalon Dr in Stockton left one person dead and another injured. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 3:17 p.m. on March 27, a Friday. Investigators reported that a 2006 Toyota Scion heading east on SR-26 veered off the road onto gravel, then the driver overcorrected and re-entered the roadway, causing it to collide with a 2002 GMC. The crash pinned the Toyota driver inside the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. Officials reported that the GMC driver managed to get out and sustained only minor injuries. The Toyota driver was transported to San Joaquin Medical Center for medical care. Officials stated that the driver subsequently succumbed to crash-related injuries. Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity while they notify next of kin. Authorities are still investigating the crash’s cause, with additional details to be shared as they emerge.
