Sonoma, CA (May 12, 2026) – One person was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on State Route 12 near State Route 29 in Sonoma. Emergency responders arrived shortly before 2 p.m. after reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles on the eastbound lanes of State Route 12, just east of State Route 29. Officials later verified that the incident resulted in a death. A coroner was called to the scene while crews investigated the crash and worked to reopen the road. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged motorcycle. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, and additional information will be released as it becomes available. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
Why Motorcycle Crashes on State Highways Can Become Severe. Motorcycle accidents on state highways frequently cause severe injuries, as riders lack the same physical shielding provided to those inside passenger cars. Even at moderate speeds, a collision can easily eject a rider from their motorcycle and into nearby traffic lanes. Highway intersections and junctions heighten collision risks because of merging traffic, frequent lane changes, and differing vehicle speeds. In cases involving several vehicles, road blockages and prolonged closures are typical as emergency teams examine the scene and clear away the wrecked vehicles. After a fatal motorcycle accident, investigators typically examine points of impact, vehicle lane positions, and road conditions.
