Shasta County, CA (May 13, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle injury collision occurred Tuesday morning on southbound Interstate 5 near Flume Creek. Emergency responders arrived shortly after 9:25 a.m. after reports of a crash involving at least three vehicles, including a white Volvo semi-truck and a blue Subaru. Early reports stated that a semi-truck struck the back of another vehicle in traffic, triggering a multi-vehicle pileup that closed lanes on the highway. One of the injured individuals was said to have sustained a large head laceration and a leg injury. Officials later reclassified the event as a major injury collision. Traffic came to a halt for a while near Conant while crews cleared the road and helped those involved. Officials also reported that a third vehicle had fled the scene after the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate what caused the crash. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical treatment. Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks Can Become Severe. Semi-truck accidents frequently result in substantial damage to roads because of the vehicles’ massive size and heavy weight. When traffic suddenly slows on highways, large trucks often need longer stopping distances to avoid collisions. Chain-reaction accidents can happen when one crash forces vehicles into neighboring lanes or oncoming traffic.
