San Francisco, CA (May 30, 2026) – A deadly collision involving a jackknifed semi-truck occurred early Saturday morning on eastbound Interstate 80 near the 7th Street off-ramp in San Francisco. According to dispatch records, the crash happened at approximately 1:31 a.m. on May 30. Early reports indicated that a white semi-truck and trailer had jackknifed, blocking several lanes close to the exit ramp. Later reports revealed that a gray Chevrolet Camaro had fallen from the freeway and was then hit by a Recology truck. One person was killed in the crash. It was also reported that the vehicle’s occupants were trapped inside after the incident on the road. The Recology truck was shifted to the right shoulder beside the 7th Street off-ramp as crews cleared debris, sand, and damaged traffic-control equipment from the roadway. The deceased individual’s identity had not been released by press time, but investigators continue to determine the factors that led to the fatal collision. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends grieving this loss. How Jackknife Truck Crashes Can Create Additional Road Hazards. A jackknife happens when a truck’s trailer pivots outward from the cab, creating an angle that can obstruct several lanes. These accidents typically occur when a driver brakes abruptly, loses grip on the road, or faces sudden changes in road conditions. Since large trucks take up a lot of space, a jackknife incident can rapidly create additional hazards for surrounding drivers.
