Santa Monica, CA (May 16, 2026) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a bus Friday afternoon, May 15, near the corner of Main Street and Ocean Park Boulevard. Santa Monica Police reported the crash occurred at approximately 2 p.m. Officials noted that the probe remains in its preliminary phase, with investigators still working to establish the sequence of events preceding the crash. In a statement, Los Angeles Metro reported that the pedestrian was outside the crosswalk when the incident occurred and ended up beneath the bus as it began to depart from the scene. Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, and the intersection remained closed for several hours as investigators conducted their work. Main Street was closed between Ocean Park Boulevard and Hollister Avenue, while traffic on westbound Ocean Park Boulevard leading to Main Street was also affected. Motorists were urged to steer clear of the vicinity while the probe was underway. Additional information has not been made public as authorities investigate the details of the incident. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the pedestrian’s family. What Factors Are Typically Examined in Pedestrian-Bus Accidents? Bus-pedestrian collisions frequently necessitate thorough reconstruction, due to the vehicle’s large size and restricted visibility in its turning and braking zones. Investigators usually analyze the bus’s location, speed, and schedule to determine how the incident unfolded. Pedestrian positioning and crosswalk adherence are also critical considerations, particularly at high-traffic urban intersections. Video recordings, eyewitness accounts, and data from the bus’s internal systems could help build a more precise timeline.
