Santa Ana, CA (May 10, 2026) – A hit-and-run collision involving injuries occurred Saturday evening on the connector from eastbound State Route 22 to southbound State Route 55 in Santa Ana. The crash was reported at approximately 7:16 p.m. On May 9, close to the transition road linking SR-22 and SR-55. Initial reports stated that a red sedan had pulled over onto the right shoulder after the crash. Authorities later revised the incident from a hit-and-run collision with no injuries to a hit-and-run involving injuries, which occurred at around 7:38 p.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where at least one person was reported to have left the freeway near 17th Street as medical teams provided aid to those involved. A tow truck was called to clear the damaged vehicle from the area. Details on the number of people injured or the suspect vehicle have not yet been made public. Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the crash, and additional information will be released as soon as it is available. Our thoughts are with those who were hurt, and we hope for their swift recovery.
What Challenges Do Investigators Face in Hit-and-Run Crashes? Hit-and-run crashes are often hard to investigate since one driver flees the scene before police can obtain information from them directly. Investigators frequently use witness accounts, traffic camera footage, vehicle fragments, and collision damage to determine the vehicle responsible. In freeway collisions, gathering solid evidence often proves more difficult amid dense traffic and reduced visibility in the evening. Ramps and connector roads linking major highways can heighten accident potential, as drivers commonly switch lanes or merge while traveling at elevated speeds.
