San Jose, CA (May 3, 2026) – A collision involving seven vehicles late Sunday night in San Jose sent multiple people to the hospital. The California Highway Patrol reported the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on State Route 87 southbound near Curtner Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found that the incident consisted of three distinct collisions happening nearby. Emergency personnel attended the scene and checked several individuals for injuries. A number of people were taken to nearby hospitals for medical care. Officials stated that the injuries did not seem life-threatening, although full details on the conditions of those affected have not been disclosed. Because of the crash’s severity, all southbound traffic was rerouted off the highway at Curtner Avenue. The roadway was blocked for about two hours while crews aided victims, examined the crashes, and removed the vehicles. Officials indicated that alcohol or drugs do not seem to have played a role in the incident. The crashes are still being investigated. We hope for a complete recovery for the injured. How Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes Escalate Into Chain-Reaction Collisions? Multi-vehicle accidents frequently start with one event but can rapidly turn into a chain reaction, particularly on crowded highways. If one collision happens, trailing drivers might lack sufficient time or distance to brake, causing further collisions. At highway speeds, even a slight delay in reaction can trigger another crash.
