San Diego, CA (May 13, 2026) – A 67-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized after being struck by an SUV in Pacific Beach. The accident occurred on Tuesday, May 12, at approximately 9:55 p.m. at the corner of Mission Boulevard and Reed Avenue. A 25-year-old man driving a Toyota 4Runner eastbound on Reed Avenue made a left turn to head north on Mission Boulevard. As he made the turn, he hit a woman who was crossing the intersection at the northern crosswalk. She was transported to the hospital with a broken pelvis. Her medical status had not been made public at the time of this report. Officials stated that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident. The investigation into the crash’s cause is ongoing, and further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with the injured woman during her recovery. What Are the Risks for Pedestrians at Crosswalks in San Diego? Crosswalk accidents in San Diego occur more frequently than most people assume, especially at high-traffic intersections where turning cars and pedestrians mix. Drivers turning at intersections often watch for breaks in oncoming traffic instead of looking for pedestrians already in the crosswalk. This can cause serious collisions even when no one is driving recklessly. People hit by vehicles usually sustain severe injuries, as the human body offers no protection against the impact of a moving car or SUV.
