What Factors Can Affect Pedestrian Safety on Roads in Sacramento County. Pedestrian crashes often occur in areas without marked crosswalks. When people cross outside designated areas, drivers may not expect them, especially at night.. Visibility can also impact safety. Low lighting conditions may make it harder for drivers to see someone in the roadway in time to stop.. Traffic flow and road design are additional factors. Multi-lane roads like Greenback Lane can increase risk, as one vehicle may stop while another continues moving in a different lane.. Driver awareness and pedestrian caution both influence outcomes. Staying alert and using marked crossings when available can help reduce the chances of serious incidents.
