(Santa Ana, CA) A wheelchair-using woman died after a vehicle struck her in an accident on North Grand Avenue Friday evening. Police reported the collision happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 600 block of N. Grand Ave. Police responded to reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian and discovered the woman with severe injuries. Paramedics took her to a nearby hospital, where she died later. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as 55-year-old Sabrina Michelle Duran. As stated by Sgt. Duran, using a wheelchair while crossing westbound on Grand Avenue, was involved in the collision with Gerard McCann. Police reported that the driver initially fled the scene but later returned and cooperated with investigators. The authorities chose not to arrest the driver on-site. Officers stated that prosecutors will decide whether to file charges as the investigation proceeds. Investigators did not disclose details about the vehicle involved or if lighting, speed, or traffic controls played a role in the crash.
