(Riverside, CA) Authorities say a man died in a collision on El Sobrante Road on Wednesday evening, January 31, when a driver hit him and fled. The incident was reported shortly before 6 p.m. located on El Sobrante Road, to the east of Mockingbird Canyon Road. According to CHP Officer Javier Navarro, officers arrived to find a man lying in the eastbound lanes of the roadway. Authorities declared the victim dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office subsequently identified the man as 61-year-old Ronney Vasquez from Moreno Valley. Investigators stated that Vasquez was hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene after the collision. No description of the vehicle was released right away. CHP reported that the driver was still at large as of Friday morning. Officials did not disclose whether the victim was crossing the street or walking alongside it when the collision occurred. Details on speed, lighting conditions, or potential witnesses were not immediately available, with several factors listed as Unknown.
