Riverside County, CA (May 11, 2026) – A woman was killed in a violent SUV rollover on the 60 Freeway in Riverside County Sunday afternoon, though her infant passenger escaped with only minor injuries. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:10 p.m. just west of Day Street. The 2014 Acura MDX was speeding along the center median shoulder when the driver lost control. The SUV flipped over several times, throwing the driver into the eastbound lanes, where she was then hit by a 2024 Tesla Model 3. The driver was declared dead at the scene. A baby, strapped in a car seat in the rear of the Acura, came through the crash unharmed and sustained only minor injuries. The Tesla driver escaped without injury. Officials have not released any information about the driver’s connection to the baby or who assumed custody of the child following the crash. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the person who died and wish a complete recovery for the infant. Understanding the Dangers of High-Speed SUV Rollover Accidents. High-speed rollovers in SUVs are especially hazardous because of the vehicle’s elevated center of gravity, making it more likely to overturn during abrupt turns or evasive actions. Ejections, impacts with other vehicles, and the danger of secondary collisions greatly raise the chance of fatal injuries. Car seats continue to play a vital role in safeguarding infants and young children in severe crashes. When properly restrained in the back seat, children have a much greater chance of surviving serious crashes, as this incident clearly shows. Motorists must drive at safe speeds, remain vigilant in congested areas, and avoid dangerous maneuvers to help prevent such heartbreaking outcomes.
