Riverside, CA (February 22, 2026) – Three men were injured early Saturday morning following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 60 in Riverside. The collision occurred on Saturday, February 21, along eastbound I-60 near Day St.. Emergency units responded to reports of a traffic crash and found two vehicles with major damage. Three people were standing along the side of the freeway when crews arrived. Investigators said two of the men were from a car that remained on the roadway, while the third was driving a truck that left the freeway and went down an embankment.. The truck came to rest partially hanging over a barrier wall behind a nearby department store. Fire crews provided aid at the scene before all three men were taken to a local hospital. Officials said the injuries were not life-threatening.. Preliminary findings indicate the truck struck the car before leaving the roadway. It is not clear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.. How Freeway Crashes Can Lead to Secondary Hazards. Freeway collisions often create dangerous secondary situations, especially when vehicles leave the roadway. High speeds and limited shoulder space can increase the force of impact and make it difficult for drivers to regain control.. When a vehicle goes down an embankment or strikes a barrier wall, the risk of rollover or further damage rises. Even if injuries are not life-threatening, crashes involving steep drops or structural barriers can quickly become severe.. Busy corridors like I-60 carry steady traffic throughout the day and night. Sudden lane changes, unexpected impacts, or loss of control can affect multiple vehicles within seconds. Maintaining safe following distances and staying alert to surrounding traffic are key steps in reducing the risk of serious freeway accidents.
