(Rosamond, CA) A crash on 70th Street West at Avenue A claimed two lives Wednesday afternoon, December 43183, according to CHP. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. A Honda Pilot heading south on 70th Street West approached the intersection with Avenue A, while at the same time, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling east on Avenue A. For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The Honda’s driver, 80-year-old Richard Madril Diaz, died at the scene. Maria De Jesus Zuniga Rivas, a 65-year-old passenger in the vehicle, was also declared dead. The driver of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for care. Analysis of the 70th Street West Crash. When two vehicles crash at an intersection, investigators generally refer to the Right-of-Way Law. This law instructs drivers on safely entering or crossing intersections, particularly when visibility or timing determines yielding obligations. Enforcing this law aids in determining how both vehicles entered the 70th Street West intersection during the crash and if one did so unsafely. Given the crash’s location at what seems to be a rural, high-speed crossing, analysts might also examine the Basic Speed Law. This rule mandates that drivers keep speeds appropriate to the road and traffic conditions.
