(Hemet, CA) A 40-year-old bicyclist died Monday evening, February 2, after a delivery truck struck him while crossing the road in a Florida Avenue incident. Hemet Police Department officers arrived shortly before 6:50 p.m. in response to reports of a crash with a cyclist. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man lying in the roadway suffering from severe injuries. Officers initiated life-saving efforts until paramedics arrived, but the man succumbed to his injuries. Authorities identified the victim as 40-year-old Ricardo Olvera Hernandez, of Hemet. Police reported that a preliminary investigation showed Hernandez tried to cross Florida Avenue in front of a westbound delivery truck at the time of the collision. The truck was heading west at an unconfirmed speed during the collision. The delivery truck driver, whose name was not disclosed, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Officials did not report any arrests. Investigators also withheld details on traffic signals, lighting conditions, or if Hernandez was using a marked crosswalk when he entered the roadway.
