What Factors Can Increase the Risk of Motorcycle Crashes in California?. Motorcycle crashes often happen under conditions where speed and visibility are factors. Riding at high speeds can reduce reaction time and make it harder to avoid sudden hazards, especially at intersections.. Intersections are common locations for crashes because they involve traffic signals, turning vehicles, and cross traffic. If a rider enters against a signal, the chance of impact increases, even when other drivers follow traffic rules.. Road awareness also affects safety. Riders must constantly adjust to surrounding traffic, road conditions, and signals. Even a brief lapse in attention or delayed braking can lead to serious outcomes, particularly in busy areas across California.
