Redding, CA (March 12, 2026) – A woman was killed and two children injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon, March 11, at the Hartnell Avenue and Victor Avenue intersection in Redding. Emergency responders were sent at approximately 1:49 p.m. following reports of a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection. Upon arrival, crews discovered a collision between a Subaru and a small pickup truck. Officials reported that the pickup truck flipped over in the crash and ended up inverted in the road. The pickup truck’s female driver was partially thrown from the vehicle during the rollover and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Two child passengers in the truck were also injured in the crash. They were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators stated that the pickup truck was heading east on Hartnell Avenue and ran a red light at the intersection, striking a Subaru driven by 41-year-old Daniel Reed of Redding, who was traveling south on Victor Avenue. Officials said the pickup driver was on a cellphone just before the collision. Roads near the intersection were briefly shut down but reopened once the response was complete. The incident is still being investigated, with more information possibly forthcoming as officials review the case. Our heartfelt condolences go to the family of the victim who passed away, and we hope for a quick, complete recovery for those hurt. Why Distracted Driving and Intersection Crashes Can Become Deadly. Intersections like Hartnell Avenue and Victor Avenue typically experience consistent traffic flow from various directions. In Redding, crash responders usually prioritize securing the scene and aiding those affected before restoring normal traffic flow. Distracted driving impairs a driver’s capacity to respond to traffic lights, other vehicles, or pedestrians.
