Placerville, CA (February 493, 2026) – The California Highway Patrol reports that two individuals died in a head-on crash Monday evening on Highway 49 north of Crystal Boulevard in Placerville. The crash took place on Monday, February 16, shortly after 5:00 p.m. CHP officials stated that the crash involved a Ford Edge and a Chevrolet pickup truck. Officials reported that two people in the pickup truck were declared dead at the scene after the vehicle burst into flames following the collision. The Ford Edge driver was taken to a hospital with potentially serious injuries. After the incident, Highway 49 north of Crystal Boulevard was shut down to traffic while officers investigated the deadly crash. The road was anticipated to stay closed for about two hours. CHP Placerville urged drivers to steer clear of the area or brace for major delays as crews documented the scene and cleared the road. Key Details.
