What Factors Contribute to Head-On Crashes on Rural Roads? Head-on collisions frequently happen when a vehicle veers into the path of oncoming traffic. This can occur from distraction, fatigue, or losing control while driving on narrow or curving roads. Road design may also play a role in these accidents. Rural roads often feature fewer barriers or medians, which can allow vehicles to more easily veer into oncoming lanes.
