(Oceanside, CA) A man died Friday night in a crash on Oceanside Boulevard when he was hit by a car while sitting on the center median. Officers arrived around 7:19 p.m. to the junction of Oceanside Boulevard and College Boulevard. When they arrived, they found the victim unresponsive and pronounced him dead at the scene. Police report that the eastbound black Ford Mustang driver stayed at the scene, cooperated with officers, and showed no signs of impairment. Authorities have not disclosed the man’s identity until his next of kin are notified. Overview of the Oceanside Boulevard Crash. Fatal pedestrian collisions frequently require evaluating California’s crosswalk right-of-way law. After investigation, officials will assess if the pedestrian’s location posed an unforeseen risk and if the driver took appropriate caution. This law mandates that drivers take measures to prevent hitting pedestrians in or near crosswalks. Given that the situation involves a vehicle moving at typical road speeds, the Basic Speed Law could also apply.
