(Malibu, CA) A man died Monday evening, February 2, after being struck by a vehicle on a coastal roadway in a PCH crash. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Malibu/Lost Hills Station arrived on scene around 7:30 p.m. to the 27280 block of the Pacific Coast Highway. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male pedestrian who had sustained fatal injuries from a vehicle collision. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department evaluated him and declared him deceased at the scene. Authorities withheld the man’s name, age, and hometown until his next of kin are notified. Deputies reported that the driver in the crash stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were reported by officials, who also did not specify if impairment or speed contributed to the crash. Both northbound and southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were shut down for several hours while deputies documented the scene and coordinated with fire crews. The road closure led to major traffic backups along the coast until it was eventually reopened. Authorities did not disclose the pedestrian’s exact location on the road or if a crosswalk was in use during the incident. Several factors, such as lighting conditions and vehicle speed, were still unknown amid the ongoing investigation. PCH Crash Analysis. After a deadly pedestrian crash on a high-speed coastal highway, investigators examine traffic safety regulations to identify potential contributing factors, avoiding premature blame.
