(Riverside, CA) A single fatality occurred early Wednesday morning, January 14, in a southbound 215 Freeway crash that closed lanes for several hours. CHP officers arrived on scene around 12:20 a.m. near the southbound Riverside (215) Freeway by Central Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a crash site and a victim in the No. 1 lane of the freeway, according to a CHP spokesperson. Officials declared the victim deceased at the scene. Authorities withheld the victim’s name, age, and gender initially. The CHP also failed to indicate the number of vehicles involved or the nature of the collision. Officers shut down all southbound lanes of the 215 Freeway while investigating and gathering evidence. According to CHP, the closure lasted several hours, resulting in major traffic backups before lanes were gradually reopened. Investigators haven’t indicated if speed, impairment, or lane changes were factors. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash while continuing to examine evidence from the scene.
