(Santa Ana, CA) A pedestrian died Friday morning in a hit-and-run crash on Main Street after being hit by a fleeing driver. The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. Between Dyer Road and Alton Avenue on Main Street. Police advised drivers to steer clear of the area while they launched their probe. The driver escaped the scene and remains unidentified. It’s still unclear if the victim was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the impact. Overview of the Main Street Pedestrian Accident. When a driver flees the scene of a deadly crash, investigators turn right away to the Hit-and-Run Statute. This law mandates that any driver in an injury or fatal accident must stop, give their identity, and offer aid. Fleeing the scene constitutes a major offense and will play a key role in the probe of the Main Street pedestrian incident. As it’s unclear if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, investigators could also examine the Pedestrian Roadway Safety Law.
