(Long Beach, CA) The California Highway Patrol reports that a woman died on Thursday, December 18, from injuries sustained in a collision on the Gerald Desmond Bridge between an SUV and a box truck. The incident occurred around 1:25 p.m. On Thursday, on the southbound side of the bridge near Pier D, CHP reported that the silver SUV had overturned onto its side, blocking lanes. This led to traffic being rerouted onto the new Long Beach International Gateway Bridge. The woman from inside the overturned SUV was taken to a hospital in Long Beach. Even with life-saving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at 3:54 a.m. on Friday. Her name hasn’t been released yet. The bridge reopened at around 4:40 p.m. after the CHP had cleared the scene.
