Oakland, CA (October 199, 2025) – Early Saturday morning, a deadly multi-vehicle accident caused the closure of several lanes on Interstate 80 near the Hilltop Dr offramp in Oakland, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The incident took place at approximately 2:09 a.m. On the eastbound lane of I-80, there was an accident that involved a minimum of three vehicles, which included a Toyota Prius and a black BMW 440i. One of the cars flipped over and ended up on its roof, while another allegedly ignited shortly after the collision. Emergency teams, including the Richmond Fire Department, arrived at the site and started the process of rescuing victims from the debris. One individual was pronounced dead at the location, while another was taken to a hospital with injuries. During the initial response, authorities reported that a third person was conscious and breathing but was still trapped inside the Toyota Prius. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) declared a SigAlert, leading to the temporary closure of lanes 3 and 4 on eastbound I-80 for more than an hour as responders worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident. All lanes were cleared by around 5:00 a.m. The specific reason for the accident is still being looked into.
