Los Angeles, CA (May 10, 2026) – A motorcyclist died early Saturday morning after a crash on the southbound US-101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley. The collision occurred at about 2:37 a.m. On May 9, in the southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway close to Vineland Avenue. According to officials, the motorcycle struck an unidentified vehicle and crashed in the second lane from the right. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where the rider was declared dead. Officials have not yet disclosed the victim’s identity. It is unclear at this time whether the driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene after the collision. Additional information about the vehicle has not yet been confirmed. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision, and further updates will be provided as soon as they are available. Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the motorcyclist’s family.
Why Freeway Motorcycle Crashes Often Turn Deadly. Motorcycle accidents on highways tend to be particularly serious because of elevated speeds and minimal protection for riders. Even a slight collision or momentary loss of control can eject a rider into oncoming traffic, heightening the chance of additional accidents. Reduced nighttime visibility and abrupt lane changes are also common factors in motorcycle crashes on freeways. Investigators usually examine road conditions, surrounding traffic, and the final positions of the vehicles to determine how the collision happened.
