Morongo Valley, CA (January 31, 2026) – A fatal collision on Twentynine Palms Highway in Morongo Valley claimed the life of a pedestrian. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) verified that the incident took place around 5:35 AM east of Adeline Way. Responders from the Morongo Valley Fire Department reached the location and declared the pedestrian dead. The victim was subsequently identified as 62-year-old David James Hill, from Morongo Valley. CHP officers stayed at the scene to investigate the crash and direct traffic during the morning rush. Preliminary CHP findings indicate that Hill was walking in the #1 lane of westbound Twentynine Palms Highway when he was hit by a white Hyundai Sonata traveling in the same direction. The initial collision threw Hill into the eastbound lanes, where he was then struck by more vehicles. First responders offered on-scene assistance and performed a detailed initial evaluation. Even though the incident was serious, no arrests have occurred, and officials have not disclosed the identities of the drivers involved. The driver of the Hyundai Sonata is reportedly a Yucca Valley resident. CHP investigators have stated that alcohol or drugs are not suspected in the crash. The investigation is still underway, with officers assessing the details and determining if other factors contributed to the deadly crash. Early morning traffic on Twentynine Palms Highway faced major disruptions while authorities gathered evidence and cleared the road.
